Monthly Update: Vehicle Sales

Houston-area dealers sold 361,428 new cars, trucks, and SUVs in the 12 months ending February ‘25, according to TexAuto Facts, published by InfoNation Inc. This represents a 0.1 percent decrease in sales over the same period last year. Though truck and SUV sales were up 1.9 percent, car sales declined 6.2 percent.

February saw an increase in sales on both sides of the market from the same month in ‘24. Car sales were up 5.1 percent and truck and SUV sales were up 20.2 percent. The start of the year is on track with ’24, and year-to-date sales are down just 2.0 percent compared to the same period in ’24. 

Prices for vehicles increased year-over-year in February:

  • The average retail price for all new vehicles was $52,513, up from $51,329 in February ’24. 
  • The average retail price for a new truck/SUV was $54,754, up from $54,348 in February ‘24. 
  • The average retail price for a new car was $42,631, up from $40,801 in February ’24.
